A Closer Look At Recumbent Bikes

March 30th, 2012 No comments

There is a reason recumbent bikes are now more popular for residential use than upright exercise bikes. While upright bikes offer more of a challenge to muscles throughout the body, recumbent bikes are much gentler on the joints. These bikes are more like sitting in a chair and pedaling, though you can incorporate your arms to achieve a whole body workout without worrying about injury.

Recumbent bikes were originally designed to be used in physical therapy for patients who would benefit from working their muscles on a bike but could not stabilize themselves on the seat of a regular bike or who had difficult lifting a leg and climbing up onto upright bikes. Over time the technology evolved and the market for recumbent exercise bikes for the use of weight loss and fitness at home boomed.

It isn’t difficult to find a great recumbent bike today, since all fitness manufacturers are making them. The Schwinn 240 Recumbent Exercise Bike is a great reference for features found on a typical low to mid range recumbent bike.

The Schwinn 240 sells far less than $1,000, so it is considered a low to mid priced recumbent bike. While it is very affordable, it still offers all the features that you would expect from a nicely designed, durable piece of home fitness equipment. It is a great example of what you will find at the lower and mid price points of the market.

Let’s start with the design. The Schwinn 240 Bike has a reasonable sized seat and allows the legs to stretch out in front for a safe ride. It has a big console and both the seat and console can be adjusted to fit users of different heights. The design also includes a heavy 20 pound flywheel which makes the ride smooth and adds stability to the overall bike.

The frame on this recumbent bike is open so users can step through and sit down without stepping over the center bar that upright bikes usually include. There are some recumbent bikes on the market that do not have the step through design, but they are by far less popular than this design.

If your goal is to lose weight or get in shape, you will enjoy the wide range of workouts that are possible with this one bike. The bike has 16 levels of resistance and a variety of preprogrammed workouts in the console. This is fairly standard for recumbent bikes selling in this price range. The console can be used with wireless heart rate monitoring devices as well, but you don’t get the wireless strap when you purchase the bike.

The Schwinn 240 Recumbent Exercise Bike is the perfect example of a high quality bike that is being sold for very affordable prices. It has a lot of valuable features but doesn’t go overboard with extras that would drive up the price.

If you want to pay more, you can purchase exercise bikes packed with amazing technology. What about a connection port or docking station for your iPod? How about a computer or television screen that flips up on your console? All of this and more is possible in the higher ends of the recumbent bike market today.

Weight Loss Solutions For You

March 29th, 2012 No comments

Getting the support of your family and friends is the first thing you need to do when looking for a weight loss solution. Getting everybody on the same page is vital do your success.

I don’t suggest changing your families eating habits all at once they may not take to kindly to that.  But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make a few small changes that will benefit everyone.

If your family eats a lot of desserts, you could cut down or better yet change the dessert to something that is healthier then what you would normally have.

If drinking coffee with cream is a regular habit switch to homogenized or 2%.  It may seem like a very small switch and it is but the calories over a year will add up to a few pounds.

Forget the diet pop or soda and all that sodium.  One part sodium will hold one hundred parts water and pop or soda are full of sodium.

Stay away from fruit juices most of them are high in sugar.

I would suggest that you stop drinking coffee all together, but switching away from the cream with out sugar or sweetener is a good start.  That’s right I did say no sugar or sweetener, this garbage will just pack the weight on, over the course of a year.

Drink green tea or herbal tea’s, even Dr. Oz will tell you that it is okay to have these drinks with caffeine.

Drink plenty of water as water will help flush the toxins from your body.  Drinking plenty of water will also keep you from becoming dehydrated.  When we are dehydrated we can lose up to 20% of our strength.  If possible get your water from an alkaline water ionizer which will greatly increase your weight loss program and energy levels.

This is enough for now to help get you started, remember one step at a time.

An Easy Weight Loss Tip

March 29th, 2012 No comments

I was once given a piece of advice by a man by the name of Peter Mueller. Peter owned a gym that I was training at. Peter said that when you are having cravings for junk food, don’t deprive yourself.

But there was a catch, you can’t have it until the next morning. When you get up first thing in the morning and you still have that craving then go ahead and eat it.

The theory is that the craving will go away before morning time. If you do eat the food that you were craving then at least you have all day to burn it off.

Personally I like to have a junk day which is either on Saturday or Sunday depending on what is going on during the weekend.

But when I have those cravings during the weekdays the above tip usually works, not all the time but more often then not.

Just take it one day at a time.

Should We Eat a Raw Food Diet Because of Enzymes? Explained

March 28th, 2012 No comments

One of the great reasons people tend to adopt a raw food diet is due to the fact that raw foods contain enzymes that can aid in human digestion. The idea is that if we consume “living” foods with their enzymes intact, our bodies can actually utilize these enzymes in the digestion of the food.

Here’s some info regarding enzymes and raw foods:

Enzymes are for the Plant, Not the Person

Enzymes are necessary for the proper development of the plant . For instance, an unripe banana contains enzymes that allow the starch in the fruit to convert to sugar, i.e. to ripen.

Once the process is complete, the enzymes are gone. So in order to actually consume these enzymes, you would have to consume unripe, acidic, nutritionally-underdeveloped food.

Kind of defeats the point of eating nutritionally-packed raw foods, eh?

And even if you did decide to consume unripe fruit, there is no reason to believe that the enzymes in the PLANT would be capable of functioning in YOUR digestive processes.

In short, these enzymes are important for the plant, not for us. Our bodies have their own enzymes that allow us to properly digest the foods we eat.

So Why Eat a Raw Diet?

There are several reasons to eat a raw food diet , the main one being that raw foods are nutritional powerhouses . The food has not been damaged via heat or processing and retains its nutritional integrity.

And, actually, for the enzymes!

As I mentioned, enzymes are very necessary in plant growth. By letting your food fully ripen before consumption, you will allow the enzymes present to work their magic, making the food much tastier and easy to digest…

So what do ya know, plant enzymes DO aid in human digestion after all!:D

Go raw and be fit.

When it comes to being overweight, not only do you have to worry about being overweight, but also where you are overweight. This data was found just in the past few years. Researchers have found that carrying around fat in certain areas of the body is especially dangerous. When it comes to your health, the worst place to have fat is on your belly. This is why gaining weight on your waist is a warning sign that you are at risk for health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. This is sometime referred to having an apple shaped body instead of a pear shaped body. This is when the excess fat is on your hips. This is not as serious an issue in terms of health problems. So, you should be concerned about extra fat around your stomach.

Most of the time your snacks can harm you more than your meals. If you are not monitoring your snacks, then you might be eating more calories than you think. Even your morning or afternoon coffee might add tons of fat and calories to your diet if it has whole milk, cream and sugar in it. If you must have your morning coffee, try to drink plain black coffee. In reference to snacks, cookies and candy have enormous amounts of calories. So try to change these to nutritious items such as celery sticks, carrot sticks and peanut butter.

Everybody is aware that obesity is cause in part by the lack of physical activity. But, a majority of people still do not make an effort to put exercise into their life. If you are afraid to start exercising, then start your program slowly. Even if you commit to just walking more each day, that will be a huge first step on your part. You can do more physical activities in your life, aside from your strenuous workouts. Walking to the store instead of using the car, do a little gardening, cleaning the windows, taking the stairs and not the elevator are all things that will help get physical activity into your life.

We are noticing a shocking increase in obesity in a lot of countries today. But nothing can be done with national statistics. You can only control the amount of food that you personally eat. You have the opportunity to speak with your physician and make your own choices. Eat a healthier diet and start exercising regularly. We’ve looked at some of the causes and consequences of obesity in this article. But, you will have to be the one who puts things into action. Last but not least, be sure to read these TurboJam reviews.
