How To Treat Migraine Headaches Properly

A migraine is commonly recognized as a chronic headache of severe magnitude is basically an enlargement of blood vessels. The enlarged blood vessels stretches the nerve fibers coiled around the vessels, which release chemicals that is the onset of the mind numbing and excruciating pains experienced by most migraine sufferers.

Nausea, diarrhea, fainting spells are common occurrences with Migraine. Sounds and bright light also affect the person and rest in a quiet dark room is advised. Migraine headaches result in major work stoppages as over 25 million Americans are reported to be afflicted with this ailment.

Common causes of migraine are lack of proper rest, worry, insufficient food etc. Migraine headache treatment is best handled with preventive measures.

You must first identify and figure out the factors that causes a migraine and ensure these factors are minimized in your daily life. First narrow down the contributors of a migraine and work towards minimizing such factors in your life. If for instance certain foods trigger this headache in you, try steering clear of such food thereby eliminating one major contributor in your case. There are other preventive methods that are recommended by experts if you are a migraine victim.

Giving up on your smokes, avoiding intense lights and definitely avoiding food that are known to aggravate this condition are some common methods. Another popular alternative to medication is Acupuncture. Acupuncture helps relieve pain. Acupuncture refers to identifying key points in your body and jabbing these points with needles.

Medication is also available but these mostly help with mild cases only. While this does not attack the source of the attack, many analgesics available over the counter provide instant relief from pain. These analgesic may be either acetaminophen based medication commonly known as Tylenol or anti-inflammatory drugs that are non steroidal in nature commonly referred to as NSAIDS like Ibuprofen.

NSAIDs unlike analgesics treat migraine headaches by reducing the inflammation of the blood vessels. Other prescriptive drugs like corticosteroids also work by reducing inflammation but these drugs have steroids and are potentially unsafe leading to other side effects and harmful consequence.

They also take a longer duration than NSAIDs. Triptan is another popular drug to combat migraine. This also works by reducing the arteries but should only be used under medical supervision as they are known to trigger heart attacks and strokes.

Gout Treatment

The following article describes how gout begins, what causes it and what gout treatment or gout remedies you can try to help relieve the pain associated with gout and help find a good gout cure.

Gout is one of the most common of all causes for joint pain. Uric acid build ups are carried in the bloodstream and settles down in the joint cartilages, causing the tendons and muscle tissues to become inflamed. Gout usually starts at the big toe and later spreads to other joint areas like the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrists, elbow, fingers and spine. Protein rich foods and alcohol intake are the most common causes of gout attacks. The effects of gout are more commonly experienced by men, although women become susceptible to gout after they have reached their menopausal stage. In both cases, joint pain is the off-shoots of crystallized uric acids lodged in the cartilage of joints.

Over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen may be taken to provide immediate relief for joint pain. However, aspirins are not recommended since it may prevent uric acid from being excreted in the renal system. Applying hot compress on the affected area is expected to dissolve the crystals thus providing relief. Long periods of immobility do not in anyway help in easing the joint pain brought about by gout. Instead, it only tends to cause the hardening of crystals which causes swelling.

To prevent the occurrence of gout, fluid intake should be increased. Excretion of uric acid through urine helps reduce the build-up. On the other hand, alcohol intake tend to dehydrate the body hence urine excretion is not promoted. A dehydrated state hastens the formation of crystals in the joints which subsequently leads to joint pain. Ingestion should be regulated to control the presence of uric acids. The diet of gout afflicted individuals should be one that refrains from meat and seafood intake. Dairy food consumption on the other hand, may neutralize gout causing substances.

Although there are drugs intended to lower uric acid, the intake of these prescriptive drugs starts only after a complete assessment of the gout attacks. In the meantime, the gout sufferer may alleviate joint pain by resting and raising the swollen joint. However, in gout attacks accompanied by fever and hot swollen joints, medical consultation is often advised. Such incidence may indicate infection and worsen the joint pain.

Limited movements may tend to worsen joint swelling. It is recommended that walking sticks be used as aid in promoting mobility Postures whether sleeping or sitting must be corrected as joint pain may occur in inert bodies.

In summary, gout is manageable but management should start before uric acids become crystallized and cause joint pain. People who suffer from gout should avoid protein rich food, drink plenty of water and accustom the body to movement rather than immobility. Although over the counter drugs may be effective, aspirin is not recommended to gout patients as this prevents uric acid from being excreted.
