The Secrets of Success: Break The Mold
Creating success is learned through the collective effects of pushing yourself into new experiences and challenging yourself to do new things both big and small. Even seemingly insignificant acts give us the confidence to break the mold, to escape the cycle of bad habits, boredom and mediocrity. And those little steps eventually become big ones until we find ourselves exactly the person we’ve always wanted to be.
Give your television a rest. Invest your time in a book that teaches you the secrets of success. Savor your meals with those you love and actually talk to one another.
Stop wasting the minutes of your day. There is never a reason to “kill time,” or even worse, be bored. You can never get back squandered minutes. Join a club or sports team. Challenge yourself to acquire a new skill. At the least, explore the world right under your nose. Go on a walk, breathe deeply and smile. Life is good.
Keep your car parked and ride a bicycle. You’ll never feel more free and more like a kid than on a bike. And you’ll view your town in an entirely different light from that new perspective.
Mingle with people who have acquired the success skills you’re seeking and learn from them. Websites like Facebook and LinkedIn make social networking a relative breeze.
Be spontaneous. Are you the type of person that feels most comfortable planning things in advance? Go wild and accept an invitation immediately without thinking about it, regardless of whether you do or do not feel like it. Revel in how freeing this feels. See something different. Drive a different route home. Get out of the office and eat lunch in the park. Escape the rat race and take a hike somewhere new. Avoid the massive cineplex for once and watch a movie in a small, art-house theater.
Don’t collect regrets. Is there a grand opportunity sitting in your lap and you’re tempted to turn it down for trivial reasons? Why acquire a regret when you can gain the benefits instead? Be daring and ask that person you fancy out on a date. And really, what does it matter if you fail? You dust yourself off and move forward with confidence knowing the regret would have been much worse.
Say goodbye to illogical fears. Venture beyond your comfort zone. Shy? Take a dance class. Afraid of heights? Consider skydiving (it’s easier than you think). Fearful of public speaking? Enroll in Toastmasters or another similar speaking club. Afraid of encountering bad people and situations? Take martial arts lessons.
Look people in the eye and smile as you interact with them throughout the day. If you’re genuine, you will be amazed at how others acknowledge that simple gesture.
Learn one new thing to better manage your money. Better still, invest some. Make a plan for how you can make your money work harder for you.
See the adventure in small steps today and how they lay the groundwork for your potential to take root. The secrets of success are yours, but only if you reach for them. All you have to do is embrace different and make a move today.
