Domestic service organizations offer young men and women an opportunity to work in community service programs around the country. If you are part of these programs, you get paid an allowance for working, and also an education award to go to tuition and fees. Doing this allows you to help your community, earn money and learn new skills.
It’s wise to log your expenses on a spread sheet. You will use this practice many other times in your life. Rather than wondering where your money went, you can always remain ahead by taking a look at your expenses on the spread sheet.
Don’t leave out any expense, including pizza, videos and used books. Buying used books is smart. Your parents will be impressed. You should always pay with cash, and if you use a credit card, make sure it is paid off at the end of the month.
Rice and pasta are healthier to eat, and less expensive than fast food. You can cook in your dorm or sign up for the cafeteria plan. Look for free food.
Some events will make refreshments and snacks available at no cost to students, just to attract their presence. Know what is happening on campus. If you’re a coffee drinker, stay away from fancy coffee shops and brew your own. You can choose to study in your room rather than a coffee shop.
It’s great to attend events at school and in the community for entertainment. These can range from concerts, movies and poetry readings. Check the school bulletin boards for dates and places and call the local chamber of commerce.
You can keep yourself healthy and in great shape. Avoid getting sick. Get plenty of rest, eat well, and exercise. By riding a bike instead than driving, you can get good exercise and save on gas.
