Help Your Child Cut Costs At College

September 29th, 2011 No comments

Even if you plan on saving when you go to college, it doesn’t hurt to start saving ahead of time. You’ll find that saving before and during your college days is an education in itself. Self-discipline and perseverance are the name of the game.

It would be a good idea to take exams and advance placement courses in high school. If you do well on it, you can save a lot of money in college by earning a college credit. It’s possible if you place high enough that you can enter college as a 2nd year student.

You can also take advantage of career focus educational programs. If you can master certain technical or occupational skills you may be able to skip them in college. No sense in repeating what you know. Learning about a career focus program can save you time and money.

Domestic service organizations offer young men and women an opportunity to work in community service programs around the country. If you are part of these programs, you get paid an allowance for working, and also an education award to go to tuition and fees. Doing this allows you to help your community, earn money and learn new skills.

It’s wise to log your expenses on a spread sheet. You will use this practice many other times in your life. Rather than wondering where your money went, you can always remain ahead by taking a look at your expenses on the spread sheet.

Don’t leave out any expense, including pizza, videos and used books. Buying used books is smart. Your parents will be impressed. You should always pay with cash, and if you use a credit card, make sure it is paid off at the end of the month.

Rice and pasta are healthier to eat, and less expensive than fast food. You can cook in your dorm or sign up for the cafeteria plan. Look for free food.

Some events will make refreshments and snacks available at no cost to students, just to attract their presence. Know what is happening on campus. If you’re a coffee drinker, stay away from fancy coffee shops and brew your own. You can choose to study in your room rather than a coffee shop.

It’s great to attend events at school and in the community for entertainment. These can range from concerts, movies and poetry readings. Check the school bulletin boards for dates and places and call the local chamber of commerce.

You can keep yourself healthy and in great shape. Avoid getting sick. Get plenty of rest, eat well, and exercise. By riding a bike instead than driving, you can get good exercise and save on gas.

If you need to work, adjust your school and work schedule to the best of your abilities, so that they won’t conflict. Lessons learned on how to save while in college can be taken with you forever. Lessons you learn on your own are at no cost and they will become a part of who you are.

Any occasion is a special occasion. Celebrate the moments in your life with fashionable wedding invitations and stylish invites that will make a lasting impression.

Why The Importance of Self-acceptance is So Important

September 12th, 2011 No comments

Probably the major reason people gain weight is through emotional eating in which people eat to fill a void inside themselves. People consume food to fill the emptiness caused by loneliness, depression, uncertainty and many other factors.

People who are depressed will find it very difficult to lose weight. Such people can find contentment only in self-acceptance. Once people are free from depression and self-condemnation, they will find that weight loss will occur rapidly.

Stop framing definitions of yourself on the basis of what you weigh. When you have reached a point in your life where you can accept yourself as you are and you feel that your diet and
exercise regime is within your control, talk to your doctor and find out what he or she says.

The nation does not require women sized five. On the contrary, it requires women of confidence who are not afraid of who and what they are irrespective of their external appearances.

To achieve success with dieting, therefore, you have to find the beauty within yourself. In the process of dieting and exercising, perform a simple mental exercise. Get to know yourself better and introduce yourself to the person you aspire to be.

The two will soon merge into one personality, an image that is perfectly acceptable to you irrespective of the ideas bombarded onto your brain by advertisers of cosmetic products.

You can achieve all your goals a lot easier and quicker when you understand proper goal setting.

Achieve Your Goals Achieve Success

August 24th, 2011 No comments

Do you want to achieve your goals.

Everyone has goals, regardless of their size or complexity, which they strive to accomplish, with varying degrees of success. If you truly want to become successful, you need to have the right attitude and mindset to achieve success. You may be surprised to learn that there are several ways to do this and everything you need, you may already have.

Importance of Visualization

Goal setting starts from within. You need to have a powerful desire and passion over the things that you want to achieve. This way, you will constantly store the ideas and thoughts that will lead to success in your mind. If your desire is weak, the results and the paths to success will also be weak or delayed. The primary step is to create dreams. You may take a pen and paper and list down the items that you want to do.

The attitude of the mind is highly important to subconsciously control your actions towards the achievement of your set goals. With that being said visualize yourself being successful in your objectives. You can keep pictures of things you desire to help you visualize. Try surfing the internet and look for the right images that will put you on the right track. You may want to consult a professional to help you visualize if you having difficulty.

List Creation

Next, you need to create a list to achieve your goals. It is vital that you create the action steps that will ultimately lead to your main goal. For example, if your goal is to get rich, you have to set steps such as saving money, investing, working extra hours, building connections, etc.

It is always recommended to make your list very specific, such as writing down “To earn 1 million dollars”, instead of just “Being rich.” You should also be specific about the action steps. You can write down “Save 10 dollars everyday”, instead of just “Save more”. You should also create a time line wherein you can finish tasks right on schedule. You will avoid the hindrances if you push yourself more by setting deadlines.

Think of The Benefits

Aside from writing down a list of your goals and action steps, you will also want to include the advantages, once you reach them. For example, you can put “Buy a new Ferrari”, “Managing my main office nemesis”, etc. These specific advantages will motivate you more. When you are writing your goals, write them as if you have already accomplished them. Put out the right message to the laws of the universe.

The Right Attitude

You need to have the right attitude that will help you stick to your goals. The most important traits are consistency, patience and discipline. Consistency describes the work you put in to achieve the results you’ve always desired. Patience talks about waiting for the right opportunity and persevering despite some disappointments. Discipline means giving up some immediate gratifications so you can get bigger and long lasting benefits in the end.

By talking to very successful people and finding a partner who can motivate you during times of trouble, you can practice the right attitude. Changes may occur but you have to stay with the goal, even if the plan is flexible and altered. It is important that you check your list every now and then and make the necessary adjustments over time.

How Do I Study? Five Techniques to Improve Your Study Habits

August 18th, 2011 No comments

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try”

- Unknown

How do I study? This might be a question in your child’s head. Your teenager can be inside the best school, with the very best notes and private tutor but unless they are motivated to succeed these aids will have a limited effect. The key to success is that each and every student be motivated to succeed – so, if motivation will be the silver bullet, where can it be found? The following are several suggestions on how parents can support and motivate students.

1. When the finish line is not near, show them the gold

It’s cab be hard to push yourself across the finish line when you don’t know or understand what you may possibly win, so it’s paramount that every student has an understanding of what achievement and failure could mean for them. Here are some suggestions on how it is possible to illustrate the difference between the initial and third preference on the CAO form.
Occasionally it may be challenging for students to definitely take the warnings and exhortations of parents and guidance councilors on board – test and enlist older brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, cousins and coaches. Anyone whose opinion you know your child will truly take on board. You can’t make up their mind for them to analyze the future, but try out and get the ball rolling.

2. Lead by example

It’s complicated enough to sit down and examine – particularly if they may be the only individual within the house doing it. It can be significant to produce a normal studying environment, so whenever you need to pay the bills, fill out forms or finish a job in your own home, attempt and do it at the kitchen table beside them. Make it understood that when someone is studying no-one is watching TV or playing on the computer.

3. Encouragement, not praise

Rome wasn’t built in a day time, so unless you’ve a boy or girl genius at home, you won’t be obtaining straight ‘As’ day in and day time out. If the work is put in most students get an honours mark in any subject, so rather than praising just on the basis of outcome encourage your child for the method plus the result.

Stay clued in, as much as possible, as to when an exam is and monitor the study time your child is putting into it – if he puts in a good effort be sure to encourage your child, regardless of the outcome. Improvement requires time and results may lag behind the effort, so don’t undermine their efforts and make sure you encourage them!

Try to figure out where they went wrong with the exam or essay – nothing undermines the motivation of a student more then the belief that they are incapable of improving.

4. Ignite a passion for studying

How do I study a lesson if I don’t have the things needed for it? This question might be familiar to some parents. Here are a couple of tricks to help ignite a passion for studying.

Keep different documentaries, magazines and interesting books lying around – you never know when they could possibly be so bored that they might read one or watch educational T.V like the discovery channel.

If there’s some thing particular you think they should read/watch sit down with them and watch it with them, they may come to find it interesting after a little nudge.

5. Get into a regimen

When you make behavior habitual it’s going to make things easier to do and complete with less resistance

Encourage them not to let their sleeping patterns shift too dramatically – a good nights sleep is really a prerequisite to retaining understanding knowledge.

You can achieve all your goals a lot easier and quicker when you understand proper goal setting.
