Eating Properly and Feeling Healthier

Try These Nutrition Tips And Stay Healthy

Eating properly might appear very complicated and involved, but if you know how to start, it can be a very smart move to improving your quality of life. If you don’t know where to start, you could over eat, under eat, or even deprive yourself of important nutrients. Don’t worry, these tips can help you safely improve your nutrition.

Solid nutrition depends on adequate sleep and to help with this, you should try and go to bed at the same time every single day. Going to bed at different hours is going to mess up your biological clock so you will not get as much sleep and the sleep that you do get will be restless.

Try slicing your meat thinner. The dish will look like it has the usual amount of meat in it, so it’s easier for your brain to accept the change. Your thinner slices will also help the flavors of the meat shine as the centerpiece. It’s a win-win situation for your cooking, so try thin slices to create satisfying meal centerpiece, without the extra fat!

When it comes to nutrition, do you want your child to learn how to make good choices? One of the best ways to do this is to take them grocery shopping with you. By going grocery shopping together, you can teach your child about nutrition and food groups. Discuss where the dairy, proteins, grains, fruits and vegetable come from and how they help the body. Begin by letting your child select some healthy choices in the produce department.

Eat seafood, particularly in the summer when the catch is fresh. Seafood, like salmon, tuna or lobster, gives your body the protein it needs for very few calories. It makes a healthy lunch or dinner, so make an effort to increase the amount of seafood in your diet as soon as possible.

Protein intake is really important for staying full and minimizing portion sizes. This does not mean that double cheeseburgers are a great idea for lunch, but it does mean that simple proteins like nuts and legumes can be excellent for keeping you full for longer. These natural energy sources are great for sustained energy.

Focus on complex carbohydrates for energy. Some people get the impression that carbohydrates such as potatoes, grains and pasta are low in nutritional value and high in calories, but this isn’t the case. The problem is usually the fats that are added to them, such as butter. Complex carbohydrates are very important, as they are quickly converted into glucose, which is the main fuel for the body.

Try your hardest to stay motivated. Often times everyone will go through a phase where they do not feel like continuing with their diet or exercise plan. You have to make a conscious effort to stick with the program and keep going.

Low sugar, nutritionally dense cereals are a great way to get nutrients in a meal. However, did you know that up to forty percent of the nutrients in your cereal can be dissolved in the milk it’s in? You should never leave that milk behind if you want to get the most out of breakfast, so grab a straw and drink up!

So as you can see proper nutrition is not as complicated as it appears. It is involved in terms of research, asking questions, and working at it, but it is worth it in the end to live healthier. With these tips in mind, you should be smarter when it comes to eating better.

The Reason for Obesity

Let’s face it. No one desires to be over weight, especially women. It is a known proven fact that obesity in this country has developed into an epidemic. Why? If you look at TV one of the reasons you will discover is that the media is consistently bombarding us with advertisements about food.

Why are advertising companies flooding us with so many TV commercials about meals, particularly  McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s or many other other fast food choices? The simple fact is they want you to get fat so you’ll proceed to go out and spend extra money on weight-reduction pills. In this way you may get lean then start again by going out to the fast food restaurants to get fat again. It’s a catch-22 scenario. It’s a vicious cycle.

Understand one fact. The heath situation of the vast majority of people in developed nations has deteriorated to such an extent that it has literally turned out to be a crisis. In keeping with consultants, about 70% of the adult inhabitants living in the United States are overweight.

It is a sad reality and one thing that needs to change. To believe that the normal way to live is to be out of shape, chubby, and have all kinds of ailments? It’s insanity. To think that 9 out of ten people are obese is an unacceptable stat. And this is what this nation is heading to.

Why is this country leaning toward getting fat? It is because most of us live sedentary lives. Kids aren’t spending their time running around and playing activities outside. As a substitute, they soar on their video games or spend time browsing the Internet and chatting with friends or others.

Besides the above, individuals are getting fatter because of the way they eat. They try to grab something fast and end up eating something they should not. Many items that are bought at the market are processed. It’s refined. Most meals are filled with chemical substances to preserve them for shelf life. We live in a fast-paced world. For that reason people declare that they do not have time to cook or are too drained to. So they seize quick junk foods from corner markets, fast food joints, and restaurants.

The plain and simple reality is that folks have become lazy citizens. In order to get out of that, it’s essential to push your self to maintain your control. You must act responsibly.

The answer to being obese is not particularly easy but it is simple. Make smarter meals selections, prepare your individual meals, and get out and exercise. Should you do that, you will not have to worry about being fat.

Not All Types Of Fat Are Bad

December 20th, 2010 No comments

I want you to understand something, fat is not a hindrance when it comes to losing weight. What leads to weight gain is eating the wrong kinds of fat and to much of it.

There are good and bad fats just like there are good and bad carbohydrates. Fat has received such a bad name with most people I feel I need to defend it.

Not all fat is created equal.

The fats that you want to avoid are trans fats which are hydrogenated fats. Trans fats are manufactured from good fats called polyunsaturated fats. Food companies have chemically changed polyunsaturated fats so that they will stay solid at room temperature. Margarine is a prime example of this.

Studies have proven that trans fats raise your risk of both heart disease and cancer. Eating trans fats will cause a rise in blood fats immediately after consuming them. This consumption will increase the risk of heart problems.

Trans fatty acids also cause a drop in good cholesterol HLD that can help protect your heart and arteries.

Saturated fats are the fats found in eggs, red meats and dairy products like butter, milk, cheese and I already mentioned eggs. These kind of fats can raise your cholesterol level and should be eaten in moderation.

Now we get to the good fats. Unsaturated fats are what you want to include in your diet every day. There are two types of unsaturated fats: polyunsaturated and monounsaturated

The best sources of polyunsaturated fats are walnuts, flax oil and hemp oil, oily fish, soy, sunflower seeds and corn oil. These fats can help lower inflammation in your body.

The best sources of monounsaturated fats are olive oil, canola oil, and peanut oil. These fats lower bad cholesterol LDL and raise good cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of heart disease.

Use this information as a guide line. Your going to have to start reading labels on products you purchase to understand which type of fat you will be consuming. Avoid the bad ones and consume the good ones.

Losing Body Fat or Strength Gain

May 28th, 2010 No comments

You have to realize, that losing a lot of weight, or gaining muscle and strength, is not a race. This process has to be long-term with realistic short-term goals.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Now, we have all heard this quote. It has never been more truthful than in a weight loss or exercise program. People first start out all motivated and excited to train. They have goals of losing 30 lbs, or bench pressing 300 lbs, along with many other long term goals. But after training for a month, they start to get discouraged. They are not reaching their goals fast enough for their liking. Weight loss and exercise is a life changing process. There is no quick-fix solution.

You have to want to make life changes. Exercise is a way to help improve your health and reach your physical goals. There are no short-cuts that have long lasting effects.

Take your time and set short term goals that will help you reach your ultimate goals, 5 years from now. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go in the gym. They all started out like gangbusters, but a couple of months down the road, they quit.

Setting unrealistic short term goals is a sure fired way to set yourself up for failure.

Let’s say you want to lose that 30lbs, I mentioned earlier, in 1 year. You have an exercise program set up and a good healthy eating plan in place. There are 3500 calories in a pound. Let’s break that 30lb weight loss goal into calories per day. 30lbs x 3500calories=105,000 calories divided by 365 days=287.67 calories per day. To reach your goal of a 30lb weight loss in one year, you would have to burn off an extra 287.67 calories per day. That is the equivalent of roughly one chocolate bar per day.

Now, to make this happen, you need to have a healthy eating plan and a good exercise program in place. Through exercise and healthy eating habits, you will have no problem reaching a 30 lb weight loss in one year.

If having a 300lb bench press is one of you’re goals, and you currently bench 100lbs at a body weight of 150lbs, don’t expect to bench 300lbs overnight. It’s going to take some time.

Take your time, make changes to your life style, and you will easily meet you’re weight and fitness goals.
