Red Meat Eating

September 29th, 2009 Hans K Anderson No comments

If you’re currently a red meat eating fiend you really should think about limiting your red meat intake and make a serious effort at avoiding processed meat.

If you’re someone who consumes over a pound of red meat per week, research suggests that you are at greater risk of getting colon cancer. Try to limit your intake of beef, lamb and pork. You might think that this is a little over the top but you can purchase a scale and physically weigh your red meat eating portions.

You should also eliminate processed meat like bacon, deli meats and hot dogs which have also been linked to a greater cancer risk, at the very least cut back on your intake of processed meats which also have high fat content. Liquid Vitamins

Neurotransmitter Serotonin and its Role in Dementia

September 25th, 2009 Hans K Anderson No comments

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, a chemical which sends messages from one synapse to another in the brain. Our bodies manufacture many different types of neurotransmitters, whose proper functioning make it possible for our brains to work, and therefore make it possible for us to live our lives.

Serotonin affects most of our brain cells, and plays a role in appetite, cognition, memory, mood, sexual urges and temperature regulation. It also affects our hearts and our muscles, and plays a part in the endocrine (hormonal) system.

The chemical name for serotonin is 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). It is found in the brain stem, and affects many brain functions. It affects the cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal and renal (kidney) systems. It stimulates muscles, and sends impulses between nerve cells. Read The Whole Story>>

Due to excessive spam, I have added a Captcha code in the comments section. Unfortunately it doesn’t work in the theme that I was previously using. So I have decided to go back to an earlier theme that I had previously used.

If you really don’t like this theme let me know and I will change it back and figure something else out.

19.2 Pound Baby

19.2 Pound Baby

A woman living in Indonesia has given birth to that country’s biggest baby ever, weighing in at whopping 19.2 pounds.

The baby’s length was 24.4 inches baby, who has yet to be named, was born by caesarean section at a hospital in North Sumatra province.

The “special delivery” was no easy feat was herd being quoted by a gynecologist who participated in the operation

The gynecologist also said that “This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of the womb. His legs were so big,” Binsar Sitanggang said.

The boy’s huge size was most likely the result of his 41-year-old mother having diabetes, Sitanggang said.

When a diabetic mother’s glucose level is high during pregnancy, the baby can receive too much glucose and grow too large, gynecologists reported.

The mother was rushed to hospital due to complications with the pregnancy, which had reached nine month period.

The baby had to be given oxygen initially to overcome breathing problems but is now doing fine.

Sitanggang described the baby as “extraordinary” in almost every way.

“He’s got a strong appetite, every minute, it’s almost nonstop feeding,” he said. “This baby boy is extraordinary, the way he’s crying is not like a usual baby. It’s really loud.”

All I can say is OMG!
