Pistachio Recall By FDA

March 31st, 2009

If you are a pistachio lover, then please make sure you read this post about a pistachio recall by the FDA.

The FDA posted on its FDA.gov site, pistachios traced back to Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. are now subject to recall.

There are no confirmed cases of salmonella poisoning, both the FDA and Setton Pistachio are urging consumers to avoid consuming products listing pistachios in the ingredient list.

The FDA recognizes that consumers are hungry for information regarding products that may contain suspect pistachios, so they have launched a dedicated page geared toward pistachio recall lists and other pertinent information.

The FDA will provide a searchable list of recalled pistachio products at http://www.fda.gov/pistachios/

The FDA plans to regularly update the pistachio recall information for consumers as it becomes available.

I don’t know about you but I tend to stay away from all brands of any recall until such time as is deemed safe.

“Brassage” Taken Off The Market

March 30th, 2009

I found an interesting post dated March 30, 2009 FROM SUN-TIMES STAFF. This article shows why consumers really need to question their purchases that make outrageous health claims.

A bra offering sexy style, great lift and a built-in lymph node massage is no longer on the market following a “Good Morning America” report questioning the bra maker’s claims of improved breast health.

Makers of the “Brassage,” once sold by Intimate Health for $59, claimed regular bras trap toxins in breast tissue, the GMA report said. The “Brassage” massage supposedly promoted breast health.

There was no medical science backing up the “Brassage” claims, the show said. One breast cancer survivor called it “exploitative” and a doctor said the idea that the “Brassage” somehow contributes to healthy breasts was “very far-fetched.”

Christina Erteszek, “Brassage” inventor, walked out of the ABC interview when the reporter started questioning the idea that a massaging bra could help prevent disease. She said she “didn’t imply for a moment this is a cure all” to breast disease.

The views expressed in this blog post, are those of the author and not of the Chicago Sun-Times.

This definately falls under the category if it’s to good to be true, it’s to good to be true.

Joint Pain Causes

March 24th, 2009

Readers will come to understand the many factors that contribute to the concept of joint pain causes.   That knee pain causes are very obvious and can be prevented.  Medical discussions on the subject matter presented quite a long list of reasons for what causes joint pain that cannot be pinned on only one or two premises. Most of these

Being over weight is a common reason why some individuals suffer from joint pain. Skeletal muscles and joints located around the hip, thigh, knees, legs, ankles and feet area bear the brunt of your body weight. As a result, the heavier the physique the more battered these areas become.  Of course joint pain is not limited to individuals who are heavy.  People who are constantly on their feet also experience joint pain. Muscles, tendons, nerves and joints are often pressed down beyond normal capacity. The cartilage which provides a protective pad between the ball and socket joints was designed to provide ample protection for non-abusive use. Thus excess weight and over exertion reduce these tendons to mere fibers causing joint friction. The unpadded rubbing of the ball and socket joints against each other creates the joint pain that we feel.

Arthritis in its diverse forms is often branded as the root cause of joint disorders. Rheumatoid, juvenile rheumatoid, osteo, Reiter’s syndrome and psoriatic arthritis are only a few of the arthritic disorders leading to harsh joint pain. Based on these premises, it was ascertained that joint pain is not limited to elderly individuals but may also affect children as young as three years old. Although aches in joints around the wrists, knees, elbows, fingers, toes, ankle and neck are described as excruciating, they can be relieved by simple medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, glucosamine and saliscylate. Quite interestingly though the arthritic disorders by itself has no known cure yet.

Other causes of joint pain can also be attributed to different bodily injuries or physical make-up. Individuals who usually engage in various forms of sports activities may find themselves injured, strained or sprained. Even previous injuries may result in recurring joint pain. Lifestyles involving the use of ill-fitting or high-heeled shoes also induce swelling in muscles and tendons that causes joints to ache. Improper posture and unnatural gaits among bow-legged individuals are sometimes diagnosed by physicians as the culprit in joint throbbing.

Though some forms of joint pain cannot be treated entirely, there are still different types of treatment and medication available that can work to lessen the pain. Although causes of joint pain may abound its relief and treatment are generally attainable. Proper care, exercise, glucosamine, good nutrition, good posture, properly fitted equipment, weight-contro , rest, less exertion and if necessary avoiding injury causing activities are among the corrective steps prescribed by the doctor.
