Guarana: Natural Weight Loss Remedy With Caffeine

March 30th, 2012 No comments

Guarana (paullinia cupana) is derived from the seeds of a plant indigenous to the country of Brazil. It has the ability to stimulate the nervous system.  Coupled with thermogenic and diuretic effects, is said to be effective for people trying to achieve weight loss. Known to be a stimulant, that heightens the nervous system, guarana is one of the many natural weight loss remedies popular these days.

The secret to guarana’s effectiveness is caffeine. Yes, the same substance found in your cup of coffee. However, guarana contains caffeine of up to 2-3 times more than regular coffee. You might have heard of or read the word “guarana” somewhere before. Try checking the label of your favorite energy drink. Yes, there it is: guarana. It does not say there “caffeine”, but now you know the reason why manufacturers of such energy drinks use guarana as one of their ingredients. Your energy drink, per serving, may contain 169-259 mg of caffeine. Compare that to a serving of coffee or soda, which contain 100 mg and 36 mg of caffeine respectively.

Guarana is in the same league as ephedra and salicin. Their ability to speed up your body’s metabolic rate enables you to burn calories faster, so they do not get stored beneath your skin as fats. In effect, they raise your body heat – thermogenesis.

If you are planning to incorporate caffeine as part of your natural weight loss remedies, make sure you get one that delivers just the right amount. Opt for something that contains just about enough caffeine to increase your energy and enable you to burn off more calories. Not too much as to cause some side effects such as agitation and heart palpitations.

Just because it’s natural does not mean you can take as much as you want. Likewise, just because you take as much as you like does not mean you will be able to shed off more pounds quicker. The more you take natural weight loss remedies with caffeine, the more side effects you will have to put up with. Also, remember to drink plenty of fluids, never skip meals, and don’t take them a few hours before bedtime. You will only stay awake, since they are stimulants.

Just because natural weight loss remedies are natural, this does not mean that they can be taken in excess. Do not combine guarana with ephedra.  Ephedra is another powerful stimulant popular among people trying to lose weight. You will only enhance side effects that are possible. Also, if you are taking Coumadin, a blood-thinning medication, steer clear from trying them.<

Diet Programs -Investigating the Alternatives

March 30th, 2012 No comments

Selecting diet plans can be almost as challenging as actually sticking to your diet once you’ve started it. There are thousands to choose from and they all contradict each other, so it’s difficult to know which one is right. To help you choose the right diet, we’ll be looking at some well known diet plans and some of their advantages and disadvantages. Also, in case you’re interested, one thing that has really helped my weight loss is nutrition.com/">Shakeology. I love it, read these nutrition.com/shakeology-reviews/">Shakeology reviews.

There is one diet in particular, called the Paleo or Caveman Diet, that is praised amongst dieters and it has been in existence for quite some time. Back before junk food was invented people ate much healthier, which is the basis of this diet. This isn’t a simple feat by any means as it means you must give up eating junk food. Because this diet is based upon the pre-agricultural times you can’t eat many grains at all! On the other hand, you can eat vegetables, fruits seeds and animal products, including meat, though it should preferably be from natural sources. You may want to look further into the Paleo Diet to find out how it agrees with you.

Losing weight, and feeling better, are both possible if you utilize cleansing diets that detoxify your system. Master Cleanse, as well as Natural Cleanse, are great choices when looking at juice fasting options. It’s important to realize that these diets can be good for your health in the long run, but they aren’t designed specifically for weight loss.

What you need to remember is that even though you may initially lose weight by doing a fast or cleanse, more than likely you will gain your way back once you are done. As you can see, diets may be more useful in the long term if you modify what you eat instead of going one from time to time. Cleansing your system is a good idea, but it will not provide a permanent solution.

Starving yourself is one guaranteed way to not lose weight so do not try it. Restricting the proper amounts of nutrients from your diet in an attempt to lose weight is not a good choice when trying to burn off extra pounds. It is commonly known that ingesting less than 1000 calories every day can lead to an unhealthy situation for people of all genders and sizes. When the body detects that it is not receiving enough nutrients, you will find yourself gaining more weight after losing it to stay healthy. A better alternative are detox programs that actually attempt to cleanse your body in a short amount of time in an attempt to lose weight. Diet plans take all sorts of forms, as we can tell from this article. You must remember, though, that your body adjusts to basic changes, changes such as the amount you eat, what foods you eat and how much exercise you get. There’s no getting around these standard facts so you shouldn’t be too preoccupied by different diets, no matter how fancy they are. Before you go, remember to read this post called “nutrition.com/shakeology-cleanse/">Shakeology cleanse results“.

An Easy Weight Loss Tip

March 29th, 2012 No comments

I was once given a piece of advice by a man by the name of Peter Mueller. Peter owned a gym that I was training at. Peter said that when you are having cravings for junk food, don’t deprive yourself.

But there was a catch, you can’t have it until the next morning. When you get up first thing in the morning and you still have that craving then go ahead and eat it.

The theory is that the craving will go away before morning time. If you do eat the food that you were craving then at least you have all day to burn it off.

Personally I like to have a junk day which is either on Saturday or Sunday depending on what is going on during the weekend.

But when I have those cravings during the weekdays the above tip usually works, not all the time but more often then not.

Just take it one day at a time.

Families and Martial Arts Training

March 29th, 2012 No comments

I have a friend who’s a kick-boxer in Australia and is working his way up through local and state super heavyweight championships. He and his wife have been over to Korea to train under a martial arts master, and kick-boxing a big hobby of his.

Anyway, his whole family have been learning martial arts as a group for years, and it’s a big family!  They’re Polynesian, and all came over to live in Australia together, including grandkids, nieces and nephews, Uncles & Aunts. And they’re all really busy and into different things – website design, a Polynesian band, study etc.

They all train together though, and sometimes I ring my friend up  and am told “sorry I can’t talk now – its training time”.  The whole/entire family has made a set time, most days of the week to train in martial arts together. They occasionally have a martial arts master come across from New Zealand to Sydney, specially to give family lessons .

I think that this is really great, and shows how an entire family can be involved in a sport and have it keep them together, active and involved. There are so many distractions today ( particularly in large cities  ) with places to go and computer games and movies that it can be really hard finding an activity that everyone in a family is happy to do together .

Martial arts always have always had the self-defense and discipline aspects, and more and more lately they’ve developed a recreational/tournament aspect. But it should be promoted far more, that learning Karate, or Tai Kwonda or Kick-boxing or most martial arts can provide the family with a common activity that so many are looking for.

Another product of learning a martial art is the self-assurance that it gives people.   It’s so good to see this in kids, even more so than seeing it in adults .  When you’re a kid, situations and other people can often look a lot more forbidding and overwhelming, and being confident that they CAN be in control of an environment and look after themselves ( and friends ) can extravert a young person an incredible amount. This is really important and can also keep them from searching for other self-confidence boosters and escapism – like drugs.

There are lots of dojos that accept a full range of ages and are happy to have the whole family.  I highly recommend family martial arts.

Should We Eat a Raw Food Diet Because of Enzymes? Explained

March 28th, 2012 No comments

One of the great reasons people tend to adopt a raw food diet is due to the fact that raw foods contain enzymes that can aid in human digestion. The idea is that if we consume “living” foods with their enzymes intact, our bodies can actually utilize these enzymes in the digestion of the food.

Here’s some info regarding enzymes and raw foods:

Enzymes are for the Plant, Not the Person

Enzymes are necessary for the proper development of the plant . For instance, an unripe banana contains enzymes that allow the starch in the fruit to convert to sugar, i.e. to ripen.

Once the process is complete, the enzymes are gone. So in order to actually consume these enzymes, you would have to consume unripe, acidic, nutritionally-underdeveloped food.

Kind of defeats the point of eating nutritionally-packed raw foods, eh?

And even if you did decide to consume unripe fruit, there is no reason to believe that the enzymes in the PLANT would be capable of functioning in YOUR digestive processes.

In short, these enzymes are important for the plant, not for us. Our bodies have their own enzymes that allow us to properly digest the foods we eat.

So Why Eat a Raw Diet?

There are several reasons to eat a raw food diet , the main one being that raw foods are nutritional powerhouses . The food has not been damaged via heat or processing and retains its nutritional integrity.

And, actually, for the enzymes!

As I mentioned, enzymes are very necessary in plant growth. By letting your food fully ripen before consumption, you will allow the enzymes present to work their magic, making the food much tastier and easy to digest…

So what do ya know, plant enzymes DO aid in human digestion after all!:D

Go raw and be fit.
