Joint Inflammation Pain Management Strategies

March 5th, 2010

The following article will touch on a few strategies to be able to manage your joint inflammation that causes you pain better and help you understand the various strategies to relieve pain joints.

With a lot of research being done in the field, people who suffer from joint pain no longer have to feel despair over their condition. Those possessing broader thresholds for pain, treat their joint pain as ordinary circumstances which they have learned to manage. Rather than letting discomfort take control of their lives, they have resorted to simple techniques of managing their joint pain.

Using either warm or cold compress as a means of alleviating joint pain are some of the home remedies that is commonly used. Fifteen minutes of applied dry heat or ice pack on affected areas may lessen swelling thereby easing the joint pain. However, therapies such as this should be referred to by a physician as there is a possibility of aggravating the condition. Warm water exercises are recommended to loosen up stiff joints and sore muscles. Water pressure provides a gentle force on aching joints.

Some doctors may recommend the application of a brace or a splint to hold up afflicted joints in case a person has to attend to a commitment. Since the aim is not to be hampered by joint pain, this method is usually a means of getting by. Again unless prescribed or approved by a doctor, incorrect implementation may cause aggravation.

Massage is said to have been employed as a relief for joint pain for centuries now. Accordingly, arthritis in ancient times already existed and massage was the means of easing out the swelling and the joint pains. Light strokes and muscle kneading over the joints helped the flow of blood around the distressed area. Massages however, are best employed if performed by an experienced therapist.

Another kind of therapist who can help an arthritic manage his joint pain is the physical therapist. This professional provides the guidance and training needed should an arthritis sufferer decide to engage in physical exercises. Exercise activities should be maintained at low-impact levels as in the forms of swimming, walking and aerobics. Exercise routines provide joint mobility but should not be applied up to a stressing point.

Engaging in weight reduction programs can decrease the weight being imposed on bones and muscles. Weight management is a big part of joint pain management. As your body weight slowly lessens, the pressure being applied to your muscles and joints also decreases. A gymnasium trainer’s advice on how to complement diet regimens with the correct work-outs may be solicited. Dieting is not only about losing weight, it is also the firming up of skin and muscles loosened up by weight reduction.

Good professional advice in addition to a strong determined mind are the most important factors necessary. Whatever method a person decides to manage his joint pain, they don’t have to do it alone.

Joint Pain Relief

March 1st, 2010

This article is about the underlying causes and joint pain relief.  Receiving chronic pain relief through the use of vitamins and exercise is also mentioned. This information will be very valuable to anyone who requires knee pain relief or knee pain treatment.

Joint pain is commonly misconstrued as an ailment. Actually, it is the effect of several kinds of ailments, disorders or injuries. As it can be a very vexing condition, it is quite important to know the underlying illnesses or causes that lead to joint pain.

Joint pain can be instigated by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). RA by being classified as an autoimmune disease means the body mistakes its own tissues as an unfamiliar substance. In doing this, the lining of the joints become agitated thereby excreting excessive fluids that can cause joint pains in wrists, knees, elbows, fingers, toes, ankle and neck. The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is still undetermined but infections, heredity and hormones are some of its considerations.

Another disorder that brings about joint pain in individuals is Osteoarthritis. This ailment is usually related with old age since the cartilages in between ball and socket joints are already in a state of erosion. As a result, these joints tend to rub each other while un-cushioned, hence resulting in joint pain. In its worst condition, joint pain is aggravated by bony spikes that form as a result of un-cushioned rubbing.

Fluid-filled sacs called bursas are found near joints where tendons or muscles cross over bony protrusions. Due to overwork or as an off-shoot of rheumatoid arthritis, gout or infections, these bursas become inflamed. Swollen bursas are the indications of the ailment called bursitis. As a result, ball and socket joint movements affect the inflamed bursa and sets-off joint pain in the shoulders, knees, elbows and hips.

An example of an illness caused by infection which results in joint pain is septic arthritis. It is a condition wherein organisms classified as streptococcus or staphylococcus reaches the bloodstream and infects the joints. Unlike the afore-mentioned disorders, septic arthritis may occur at any age and usually produces joint pain in the knees and hips. There are a numerous ways to deal with joint pain.  To avoid bone related diseases that result in joint pain, a sufficient supply of vitamin D in the body is most helpful. A medically suggested method of promoting vitamin D production within the body system is by having adequate exposure to the sun’s healthful rays. In cases of osteoarthritis not related to the event of old age obesity usually causes the early erosion of cartilages. Thus, weight reduction can avert arthritic conditions that lead to aching joints.

Other remedies may involve the use of an exercise ball to help socket joint movements and muscle strengthening. Light work outs in a pool, gym or yoga are often suggested as effective treatments. Organic based products advertised online such as “Flex Protex” or glucosamine are recommended for relief of easing joint aches. Eventually everyone will deal with the reality of joint pain and dealing with it can be accomplished by knowing its relief.

Make sure you consult with your Doctor with regards to the use of vitamins and before you begin any kind of physical exercise.

Joint Treatment May Prevent Other Disorders

February 9th, 2010

In this article you will learn about how early joint treatment may prevent other disorders. Understanding joint pain symptoms and other various forms of joint pain suah as SLE, thyroid diseases and the natural progression of human life.

It has been medically ascertained that the autoimmune syndrome known as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or SLE is just one of the many causes of chronic joint pain. By being autoimmune, the body has become over-active in fighting-off unknown harmful substances. It has come to a point that it can no longer differentiate the harmful organisms from the healthy cells and tissues. In this condition the body’s muscles are not spared from such attacks. Muscles and tendons are so inflamed that it causes a compression on the ball and socket joints. Thus the SLE sufferer has to deal with the presence of both joint pain as well as muscle pain. Fortunately, relief from such aches can be addressed by intake of well-tolerated medications such as aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen and saliscylate.

Nevertheless, SLE may not always be the cause for muscle or joint pain. Studies found that thyroid diseases affect the body’s skeletal muscles. Muscles such as biceps and quadriceps are examples of skeletal muscles that are connected to the bone. The thyroid disorder brings about an abnormality in the levels of certain biochemical substances that accumulate in the muscles. Build-up will now result in muscle inflammation. The swelling presses on the joints and nerves, subsequently leading to joint pain as well as muscle pain. This condition however can be resolved by maintaining the thyroid hormone at a normal degree.

The other causes of joint pain are brought about by the body’s natural response to conditions such as old age and over-fatigue. Some medical experts opine that joints and muscle pains may precede other diseases. Hence it is also their opinion that treatments should be done at an early stage. Medical consultations provide the best recommendation of treatments and therapies. Proper dietary intake for one is included in a physician’s prescription. This may be listed as the types of food that can supply the vitamins and minerals needed to strengthen the muscles and bones. Reinforcement of these body parts can prevent early erosions as we tend to constantly use them beyond their natural limits. In other cases, diet is prescribed for a weight-loss program. Joints and muscles are also affected by the body weight an individual has to carry. Naturally an obese or over-weight person applies a daily dose of stress on his thighs, knees, legs and ankles where joints and muscles are located. Hence, reductions in body weight help relieve the occurrence of joint pain.

Rest is an opportunity for the body to engage in self-repair of muscles and bones and is often a part of any doctor’s recommendation to alleviate joint pain. Medical evaluations as to the length of recuperative rest necessary can provide positive results that last longer. However, it is not uncommon for a doctor to implement exercise routines while under his treatment. His implementation of course comes with a warning of exercising with care so as not to aggravate the distressed muscles and joints. Treating joint pain immediately is a major step in preventing it from becoming worse.

Unfortunately joint pain is something all of us will have to deal with at some point in our life. As odd as this might sound we should start to combat joint pain before we have it through proper nutrition and exercise.

Gout Treatment

January 1st, 2010

The following article describes how gout begins, what causes it and what gout treatment or gout remedies you can try to help relieve the pain associated with gout and help find a good gout cure.

Gout is one of the most common of all causes for joint pain. Uric acid build ups are carried in the bloodstream and settles down in the joint cartilages, causing the tendons and muscle tissues to become inflamed. Gout usually starts at the big toe and later spreads to other joint areas like the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrists, elbow, fingers and spine. Protein rich foods and alcohol intake are the most common causes of gout attacks. The effects of gout are more commonly experienced by men, although women become susceptible to gout after they have reached their menopausal stage. In both cases, joint pain is the off-shoots of crystallized uric acids lodged in the cartilage of joints.

Over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen may be taken to provide immediate relief for joint pain. However, aspirins are not recommended since it may prevent uric acid from being excreted in the renal system. Applying hot compress on the affected area is expected to dissolve the crystals thus providing relief. Long periods of immobility do not in anyway help in easing the joint pain brought about by gout. Instead, it only tends to cause the hardening of crystals which causes swelling.

To prevent the occurrence of gout, fluid intake should be increased. Excretion of uric acid through urine helps reduce the build-up. On the other hand, alcohol intake tend to dehydrate the body hence urine excretion is not promoted. A dehydrated state hastens the formation of crystals in the joints which subsequently leads to joint pain. Ingestions should be regulated to control the presence of uric acids. The diet of gout afflicted individuals should be one that refrains from meat and seafood intake. Dairy food consumption on the other hand, may neutralize gout causing substances.

Although there are drugs intended to lower uric acid, the intake of these prescriptive drugs starts only after a complete assessment of the gout attacks. In the meantime, the gout sufferer may alleviate joint pain by resting and raising the swollen joint. However, in gout attacks accompanied by fever and hot swollen joints, medical consultation is often advised. Such incidence may indicate infection and worsen the joint pain.

Limited movements may tend to worsen joint swelling. It is recommended that walking sticks be used as aid in promoting mobility Postures whether sleeping or sitting must be corrected as joint pain may occur in inert bodies.

In summary, gout is manageable but management should start before uric acids become crystallized and cause joint pain. People who suffer from gout should avoid protein rich food, drink plenty of water and accustom the body to movement rather than immobility. Although over the counter drugs may be effective, aspirin is not recommended to gout patients as this prevents uric acid from being excreted.

Arthritis Cures

December 25th, 2009

This article is about the different types of arthritis cures and what causes arthritic pain. Also herbal therapy suggestions for a good arthritis pain reliever such as glucosamine sulphate are mentioned.

Endless research to find arthritis cures has produced plenty of information about its root causes. To date more than a hundred types of arthritis pain reliever have been identified creating even more confusion as to how to cure the disease. Out of these multitudes, efforts still remain centered on four major classes of arthritis, namely rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and fibromyalgia.

Joint inflammation is a basic characteristic present in arthritic conditions. Swelling is evident in almost all areas where two or more bones meet hence the pain is quite unbearable when it affects the whole body. Joint pain brought about by this inflammation can affect even a simple activity such as brushing your teeth. Extreme cases of physical activity or inactivity can be a cause for arthritis knee pain. Sports related injuries such as sprains, strains, over-stretching and over-exertions may inflame muscles that cross-over joint hinges. Excessive body weight bearing down on joints found in the hip, back, knees, ankles and feet speeds up the wearing out of the cartilages. Setting in of old age presents the effect of frayed and worn-out muscles, tendons and nerves. All these and more lead to joint pain in whatever age or gender.

Failures of main body organs such as skin, heart, lungs, spleen and eyes are also identified as culprits in bringing about joint pain. These are causes that are discovered by the physician as a result of analyzing blood samples and x-rays. The diversity of causes however can be remedied by simple medications and corrective treatments.

Analgesics, also known as pain-killers alleviate joint pain as they suppress the systemic causes. However, certain individuals may be susceptible to possible side-effects such as nausea, constipation, cognitive injury, dizziness and anxiety. Manifestations of such symptoms should be taken as a sign to shy away from these types of medications.

People experiencing side-effects from pain-killers may opt to resort to natural therapies to alleviate joint pain. Some of the known herbal therapy suggestions are primrose oil, glucosamine sulphate, devil’s claw’ and avocado extracts. Dietary supplements such as those with omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are said to be high in anti-inflammatory attributes that lessen the harshness of joint pains. However, caution is required since these natural substitutes are not FDA approved.

Another choice to relieve joint pain is topical medication. These may come in the form of balms, creams, gels, lotions, ointments and patches. The products may result in temporary relief but other findings show that these treatments are effective only in selective joint areas.

When using topical medications for joint pain the medications may be enhanced with a mild massage. Gentle motions of stretching and rubbing can bring relief by soothing stiffness and providing motion for joints. Already in existence long before it was named as such, massage is considered to be an ancient effective treatment for arthritis
