Ways to TMJ Exercise

What is this TMJ relief  for? I think it is best if first we describe TMJ as it is often considered to be a disorder.   TMJ is the temporomandibular joint or in nonprofessional’s term, the jaw joint. There are two TMJs working conjointly. These two bones are located on both sides from the joints.  Cranium is the upper bone   , it is called the temporal bone, and the mandible is the lower jaw bone  . These joints have to work in unison because they are connected together by the articular disc, and their functions are interconnected. The lower joint compartment is for the rotational movement when the mouth is opened. Adding up  , the upper joint compartment is for the translational movement when the mouth is opened widely. Accordingly, if one of them is not working decently, then that causes a lot of pain .

TMJ dysfunction can easily be spotted as it causes pain over the joint or you have difficulty opening your mouth. Nevertheless, some of the TMJ disfunction  are related to other parts of the body like your eyes, ears, neck and a lot more. Toothaches, headaches, and even migraines are some examples of its cause . This is not a simple matter that should be ignored  and so, professional help is important  . Exercise is a very efficient way of ridding the pain caused by TMJ dysfunction. To determine the correct exercise and the correct diagnosis, one should seek the help of a medical specialist first before doing  any of the steps .

For your first TMJ exercise, sit on a chair with your back resting comfortably against the backrest. Close your mouth, use your thumb and forefinger to press the front of your lower jaw. Press your head backwards and make sure that it is not bent, this would force the mouth to open slightly. You will know if you have done this correctly, as you will feel your lower teeth moving backwards in synchronization with your upper teeth. Gently move your head and jaw forward and never look up and down. Perform these steps five times a day for best results.

Secondly, place your thumb and forefinger against your face onto your lower jaw. You also have to make sure that your upper and lower teeth are apart. You would feel your upper and lower teeth moving in unison while you slowly press your jaw backwards. In a few seconds after the first exercise  , gently press your jaw against your hand and hold on to that position for about ten seconds. While keeping that position, gently press your lower jaw making sure    to thrust your lower teeth forward. 

With the last TMJ exercise , gently clasp your teeth together and place the tip of your tongue just behind the front teeth. Run your tongue backwards until you feel the soft palate. Then carefully open your mouth, stopping when you feel your tongue leaving the soft palate, or if you feel pain or uncomfortable doing this. Repeat this exercise several times per day. It’s very important that you perform these exercises properly to benefit from them.

Arthritis – Not Just For The Senior Citizens

There’s a general misconception that arthritis is an age-related health problem that troubles only the senior citizens or the elderly. It could be true with osteoarthritis, the most common type of joint disorder that usually is affecting adults of both sexes in their middle age. But what the majority don’t get is that there are more types or causes of arthritis. There are many considerations when seeking  arthritis remedies.

Arthritis, a. K. A joint soreness, is defined as an inflammation of one or more joints and involves the breakdown of cartilage leading to discomfort, swelling, and limited movement.

Cartilage is responsible for defending the joints and serves as a surprise absorber when pressure is placed on the joint during walking or running. It allows for the smooth movement of our limbs. Without cartilage, the bones will rub together and may cause pain, swelling ( inflammation ), and rigidity. Doctors generally prescribe  arthritis pain relief and anti-inflammatory drugs to help lessen the agony.

Arthritis, or joint swelling, can be due to the following causes:
broken Bones;
Infections that are sometimes caused by bacteria or viruses;
An autoimmune disease ( the body attacks itself because the immune system believes a body part is foreign ) ; and
General ‘wear and tear’ on joints.

Generally, as fast as the injury heals, the swelling disappears. The infection is treated and the illness is cured. However, there are some wounds or injuries wherein the inflammation remains stubbornly and steadily causing pain that may light the way to bigger problems. This condition is known as persistent arthritis.

People suffering from arthritis will experience the following symptoms:
Joint pain
Joint swelling
rigidity, particularly in the morning
heat around a joint
Redness of the skin around a joint
Reduced capability to move the joint

Arthritis is a condition that may occur in men and women of every age. Other kinds of arthritis include:
Rheumatoid arthritis ( in adults )
Osteoarthritis ( middle age and above )
Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis ( in children )
Systemic lupus erythematosus ( SLE )
Gout
Scleroderma
Psoriatic arthritis
Ankylosing spondylitis
Reiter’s syndrome ( reactive arthritis )
Adult Still’s disease
Viral arthritis
Gonococcal arthritis
Other bacterial infections ( non-gonococcal bacterial arthritis )
Tertiary Lyme disease ( the late stage )
Tuberculouus arthritis
Fungal infections such as blastomycosis

Osteoarthritis, being the most common type, is a chronic illness which causes the cartilage between the bone joints to get worse and may cause painful sensation and/or stiffness. New pieces of bones, called bone spurs, may grow round the joints as a consequence of osteoarthritis. Until now, there’s no known reason yet as to the root of osteoarthritis but it is in general being associated with aging. However, factors like metabolism and genes can play a part in its development.

There are many factors to consider before your physician can prescribe arthritis pain relief treatment plan such as the particular cause of arthritis, affected joints, severity of arthritis, and how the condition affects your daily activities. Age and occupation will also be considered.

Eliminating the underlying cause of the arthritis is one of the goals for treating arthritis. However, not all cause are treatable like in the cases of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Reducing pain and discomfort as well as prevention from further damage becomes the focus.

Lifestyle changes and exercise can significantly help in improving the condition of those afflicted with arthritis. Medications like arthritis pain relief and anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken in addition to exercise and lifestyle changes.

Gout Treatment

The following article describes how gout begins, what causes it and what gout treatment or gout remedies you can try to help relieve the pain associated with gout and help find a good gout cure.

Gout is one of the most common of all causes for joint pain. Uric acid build ups are carried in the bloodstream and settles down in the joint cartilages, causing the tendons and muscle tissues to become inflamed. Gout usually starts at the big toe and later spreads to other joint areas like the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrists, elbow, fingers and spine. Protein rich foods and alcohol intake are the most common causes of gout attacks. The effects of gout are more commonly experienced by men, although women become susceptible to gout after they have reached their menopausal stage. In both cases, joint pain is the off-shoots of crystallized uric acids lodged in the cartilage of joints.

Over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen may be taken to provide immediate relief for joint pain. However, aspirins are not recommended since it may prevent uric acid from being excreted in the renal system. Applying hot compress on the affected area is expected to dissolve the crystals thus providing relief. Long periods of immobility do not in anyway help in easing the joint pain brought about by gout. Instead, it only tends to cause the hardening of crystals which causes swelling.

To prevent the occurrence of gout, fluid intake should be increased. Excretion of uric acid through urine helps reduce the build-up. On the other hand, alcohol intake tend to dehydrate the body hence urine excretion is not promoted. A dehydrated state hastens the formation of crystals in the joints which subsequently leads to joint pain. Ingestion should be regulated to control the presence of uric acids. The diet of gout afflicted individuals should be one that refrains from meat and seafood intake. Dairy food consumption on the other hand, may neutralize gout causing substances.

Although there are drugs intended to lower uric acid, the intake of these prescriptive drugs starts only after a complete assessment of the gout attacks. In the meantime, the gout sufferer may alleviate joint pain by resting and raising the swollen joint. However, in gout attacks accompanied by fever and hot swollen joints, medical consultation is often advised. Such incidence may indicate infection and worsen the joint pain.

Limited movements may tend to worsen joint swelling. It is recommended that walking sticks be used as aid in promoting mobility Postures whether sleeping or sitting must be corrected as joint pain may occur in inert bodies.

In summary, gout is manageable but management should start before uric acids become crystallized and cause joint pain. People who suffer from gout should avoid protein rich food, drink plenty of water and accustom the body to movement rather than immobility. Although over the counter drugs may be effective, aspirin is not recommended to gout patients as this prevents uric acid from being excreted.

This article is about the different types of arthritis cures and what causes arthritic pain. Also herbal therapy suggestions for a good arthritis pain reliever such as glucosamine sulphate are mentioned.

Endless research to find arthritis cures has produced plenty of information about its root causes. To date more than a hundred types of arthritis pain reliever have been identified creating even more confusion as to how to cure the disease. Out of these multitudes, efforts still remain centered on four major classes of arthritis, namely rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and fibromyalgia.

Joint inflammation is a basic characteristic present in arthritic conditions. Swelling is evident in almost all areas where two or more bones meet hence the pain is quite unbearable when it affects the whole body. Joint pain brought about by this inflammation can affect even a simple activity such as brushing your teeth. Extreme cases of physical activity or inactivity can be a cause for arthritis knee pain. Sports related injuries such as sprains, strains, over-stretching and over-exertions may inflame muscles that cross-over joint hinges. Manifestations of such symptoms should be taken as a sign to shy away from these types of medications.

Some of the known herbal therapy suggestions are primrose oil, glucosamine sulphate, devil’s claw’ and avocado extracts. Dietary supplements such as those with omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are said to be high in anti-inflammatory attributes that lessen the harshness of joint pains. However, caution is required since these natural substitutes are not FDA approved.

Another choice to relieve joint pain is topical medication. These may come in the form of balms, creams, gels, lotions, ointments and patches. The products may result in temporary relief but other findings show that these treatments are effective only in selective joint areas.

When using topical medications for joint pain the medications may be enhanced with a mild massage. Gentle motions of stretching and rubbing can bring relief by soothing stiffness and providing motion for joints. Already in existence long before it was named as such, massage is considered to be an ancient effective treatment for arthritis

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis Hip?

Rheumatoid arthritis is a kind of autoimmune disease. Our bodies’ immune cells attack and kill what they see as foreign invaders, usually bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Rheumatoid arthritis hip usually affects the joints on both sides of the body. So, when the right hip is impacted, so will the left be.
