Are Skin Tags Dangerous?

July 8th, 2010 Hans K Anderson No comments

For a lot of people, they are quite aware of skin tags that are often in the folds of skin such as armpits, eyelids, and groin area, realize that they are not dangerous. Many others, particularly people who may have just noticed them, they can become quite concerned. Are skin tags dangerous? That is the question.

If you’re concerned about skin tags, have a conversation with your physician. Show them where they are and make sure that they are not something that is going to turn into a problem down the road. In reality, most skin tags are benign and will never be a problem, while others, especially those that are in areas that can become irritated can be dangerous but not usually cancerous.

These small skin tags come from a root stalk of cells, that grows out of the skin, versus a flat mole type group of cells. They can become quite large, but aren’t usually seen larger than a golf ball, removal is usually quick and easy, and may or may not contain an anesthetic. Of course, it’s all according to the size of the skin tag, where it’s located, and what your preferences are.

While most skin tags are benign, you should alert your physician. You can then discuss removal procedures, and even whether you wish to take the time to remove them. Because they are not normally cancerous, and if they’re not in an area that is easily irritated, it is considered cosmetic surgery. This means that it may or may not be covered by your health insurance.

These benign skin tags can show up anywhere from the time you were born, to 60 years of age or older. And many people find that during middle age they notice more of them appearing. The ones that are on the eyelids or on the face are often the most uncomfortable, and then there are those that hit in the underwear elastic areas, these also can be uncomfortable and become irritated.

There are plenty of ways that you can remove skin tags easily and quickly. In fact, according to the size, you may be able to use a pair of toenail or fingernail clippers that have been sterilized. You may feel a slight pinch when you remove the skin tag, if you think it’s going to bleed, make sure you check with your physician before you do this. Then there is cryosurgery, ligation, cauterization and excision all done by your physician with or without anesthetic.

It really depends on the skin tag and where it is located as to whether the question of skin tags being dangerous or not can be answered properly. Make sure that you alert your physician any time that you notice a skin tag growing in an irritating area, and then between the two of you, decide whether it needs to be removed or not.

Fitness Quotes

July 7th, 2010 Hans K Anderson No comments

I thought I’d keep it really light today so I made a list of some fitness quotes.

Charles Caleb Colton: Money is the most envied, but the least enjoyed. Health is the most enjoyed, but the least envied.

Jean Paul: No rest is worth anything except the rest that is earned.

Hippocrates: Old people have fewer diseases than the young, but their diseases never leave them.

Robert Orben: Older people shouldn’t eat health food, they need all the preservatives they can get.

Unknown Author: Our health always seems much more valuable after we lose it.

Voltaire: Rest is a good thing, but boredom is its brother.

Plutarch: Rest is the sweet sauce of labor.

Ashleigh Brilliant: Sometimes the most urgent and vital thing you can possibly do is take a complete rest.

Fred Perry: Tactics, fitness, stroke ability, adaptability, experience, and sportsmanship are all necessary for winning.

Goethe: Take care of your body with steadfast fidelity. The soul must see through these eyes alone, and if they are dim, the whole world is clouded.

Joint Pain Causes

July 6th, 2010 Hans K Anderson No comments

Readers will come to understand the many factors that contribute to the concept of joint pain causes.   That knee pain causes are very obvious and can be prevented.  Medical discussions on the subject matter presented quite a long list of reasons for what causes joint pain that cannot be pinned on only one or two premises. Most of these

Being over weight is a common reason why some individuals suffer from joint pain. Skeletal muscles and joints located around the hip, thigh, knees, legs, ankles and feet area bear the brunt of your body weight. As a result, the heavier the physique the more battered these areas become.  Of course joint pain is not limited to individuals who are heavy.  People who are constantly on their feet also experience joint pain. Muscles, tendons, nerves and joints are often pressed down beyond normal capacity. The cartilage which provides a protective pad between the ball and socket joints was designed to provide ample protection for non-abusive use. Thus excess weight and over exertion reduce these tendons to mere fibers causing joint friction. The unpadded rubbing of the ball and socket joints against each other creates the joint pain that we feel.

Arthritis in its diverse forms is often branded as the root cause of joint disorders. Rheumatoid, juvenile rheumatoid, osteo, Reiter’s syndrome and psoriatic arthritis are only a few of the arthritic disorders leading to harsh joint pain. Based on these premises, it was ascertained that joint pain is not limited to elderly individuals but may also affect children as young as three years old. Although aches in joints around the wrists, knees, elbows, fingers, toes, ankle and neck are described as excruciating, they can be relieved by simple medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, glucosamine and saliscylate. Quite interestingly though the arthritic disorders by itself has no known cure yet.

Other causes of joint pain can also be attributed to different bodily injuries or physical make-up. Individuals who usually engage in various forms of sports activities may find themselves injured, strained or sprained. Even previous injuries may result in recurring joint pain. Lifestyles involving the use of ill-fitting or high-heeled shoes also induce swelling in muscles and tendons that causes joints to ache. Improper posture and unnatural gaits among bow-legged individuals are sometimes diagnosed by physicians as the culprit in joint throbbing.

Though some forms of joint pain cannot be treated entirely, there are still different types of treatment and medication available that can work to lessen the pain. Although causes of joint pain may abound its relief and treatment are generally attainable. Proper care, exercise, glucosamine, good nutrition, good posture, properly fitted equipment, weight-contro , rest, less exertion and if necessary avoiding injury causing activities are among the corrective steps prescribed by the doctor.
