Getting an Insight into Our Chakra System

Chakrology is a term introduced by practitioners of alternative medicine and New Age philosophers to describe the study of the chakra system, the human body’s energy processing centers identified almost four thousand years ago by the Ancient Hindus.

According to the Ancient Hindus, there are thousands of chakra points that make up the human body’s chakra system but of these, there are seven chakra points that are considered of major importance. This major chakra system which consists of the seven major points is our body’s main energy processing centers. As it is, they are our active connection to our consciousness and spiritual essence.

Each major energy point of our body’s chakra system possesses a unique function which contributes to a unique feature of our individuality. Although they work independently of each other, they are at the same time processing the energy they gather towards a common goal: our well being.

An interesting note to consider is the similarity of all the models used to portray our chakra system, regardless of philosophical and/or educational background. They all illustrate a connection to our glandular system!

The common representation of our major chakras is a straight ascending line along the spinal column from the base to the top of the head. Modern representations go one step further and assign the primary colors of the color wheel to each of the seven major energy points for a better illustration and to depict particular energy representations as colors symbolize different energy levels as well.

The significance and existence of chakras is primarily assumed to exist in our awareness (psyche). Nonetheless, there are advocates who firmly believe that chakras also have a physical manifestation and exist not just in the consciousness. Not without basis though as more and more study on the subject reveals what the Ancient Hindus and other Eastern Civilizations have claimed thousands of years ago: that there is a distinct and direct connection between the locations and performance/behavior of the chakras and of the endocrine glands of our body.

The positioning and role of the chakras in our totality (physical, mental and emotional) as human beings give them significant importance in two aspects of our lives: health and illness.

An integral approach to taking care of our body is necessary in order to achieve total wellness. Considering that the nature of our chakra centers is a continuous interaction between themselves, the environment and our body, it can not be dissociated from the physical being simply because it can not be seen. Although this is the case, the physical manifestations of malfunction is very clear and concrete as each one of our energy centers affect certain parts of our physical and spiritual being.

It is widely accepted that only five of our seven energy centers possess both an active and passive quality. These are the second to the sixth energy centers. Of the seven, the first and seventh energy centers do not have this active/passive quality inherent in the other five. This first and seventh chakra points are the ones that initially receive more energy than others.

This even makes it more important to realize the functions of our chakra system and how to manipulate them to our advantage in order for them to send and receive energy in equal amounts.
