Chitosan: Natural Weight Loss Remedy
This substance is all-natural and is great at taking excess fats out of the body. However, if you develop any allergic reaction to shellfish, you might as well try other natural weight loss remedies. You might be surprised, but Chitosan has many other uses than just for shedding off excess pounds.
Chitosan is derived from chitin. Chitin is made from the hard exoskeletons or skin of sea animals such as shrimp and lobsters. Chitosan, aside from being one of the most popular natural weight loss remedies available today, is also used as:
Plant fertilizer and to ward off plant diseases caused by fungi.
A Filtration constituent in water treatment plants – removes unwanted particles, as well as oil, heavy minerals and other unnecessary particles.
A purifier used in manufacturing of wines, beers and others. It is great for removing yeast and fruit particles.
Because of the substance’s ability to coagulate blood, it is used as a component in bandages. It also has anti-bacterial properties, and does not cause side effects.
As one of the many natural weight loss remedies, Chitosan is effective in eliminating the excess fats in the food you eat. How does this substance do it? It acts like a magnet for fats, thus instead of your body absorbing them, Chitosan simply flushes out the fats in your body. So even if you eat foods with fat contents, they will not be absorbed by the body and add unwanted pounds.
It’s said that Chitosan is effective in eliminating about 30 calories coming from fats. This is by using the substance as is. When in modified state, it can absorb fats 3-6 times its weight. However, this claim is based on mere hypothesis alone.
Clinical tests of Chitosan’s effectiveness in shedding off excess pounds have been, initially, conducted only on animals, not in humans. Although the tests yield positive results, many weight loss experts still don’t agree that Chitosan is great for weight loss on humans. When tested on humans, those who took placebo demonstrated just the same amount of weight loss as those who were given the substance. Up to this day, the claims of this substance are still debatable.
Its ability to bind with fats in foods is said to help eliminate them, which contributes to weight loss, instead of being absorbed by the body. This property of Chitosan makes it one of the many natural weight loss remedies available these days. Chitosan cannot be digested and absorbed by the gastro-intestinal tract, since this is made from a hard substance called chitin – the same substance that makes up the hard shells and skins of sea animals like shellfish. It has no calorie content. So no matter how much Chitin you consume, no additional calories are introduced into the body.
