19.2 Pound Baby
A woman living in Indonesia has given birth to that country’s biggest baby ever, weighing in at whopping 19.2 pounds.
The baby’s length was 24.4 inches baby, who has yet to be named, was born by caesarean section at a hospital in North Sumatra province.
The “special delivery” was no easy feat was herd being quoted by a gynecologist who participated in the operation
The gynecologist also said that “This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of the womb. His legs were so big,” Binsar Sitanggang said.
The boy’s huge size was most likely the result of his 41-year-old mother having diabetes, Sitanggang said.
When a diabetic mother’s glucose level is high during pregnancy, the baby can receive too much glucose and grow too large, gynecologists reported.
The mother was rushed to hospital due to complications with the pregnancy, which had reached nine month period.
The baby had to be given oxygen initially to overcome breathing problems but is now doing fine.
Sitanggang described the baby as “extraordinary” in almost every way.
“He’s got a strong appetite, every minute, it’s almost nonstop feeding,” he said. “This baby boy is extraordinary, the way he’s crying is not like a usual baby. It’s really loud.”
